Oh the nights of slowly cooking a delicious pasta sauce. Listening to Italian tunes and watching Grumpier Old Men sure is the way to go for me! To explain the movie reference: there is a scene where one of the main characters cooks up a pasta sauce in hopes of wooing the sexy and head-strong Italian woman who just moved into town. Classic seduction.
I would like to argue the saying “The way to a man’s heart is through food” I say any person who cooks up an awesome meal and shares it is alright in my books. After all, I am dating a man who knows his way around the kitchen. And that is not a woman’s job. FYI for all the couch potato, demanding weirdo’s out there who only think women should be in the kitchen. Take a look in the back of any restaurant. Guaranteed your meal was cooked by a man. Or at least a portion of it was because it takes more than one person to put together a meal in a commercial kitchen. Back to the sauce.
I cooked onions, garlic and basil together with some pepper and salt for seasoning in a little bit of oil then took them out of the pan and caramelized some sliced up mild italian sausage. Threw the onion mix back into the pan and let everything cook together for a bit. I then put in some peeled tomatoes and tomato paste that was watered down with a mix of red wine (any kind), little bit of honey and water. After stirring all the yummy goodness together I put a lid on top and let it simmer for a few hours. To serve I boiled up some homemade pasta, put the sauce on top and grated fresh parmesan on top. None of that cheap crap. Paired with a glass of sangria or white wine because I still can’t hack an intense red. Soooo good!
